Offering an ideal climate for vineyards, numerous wineries have settled in Murphys, with over a dozen tasting rooms on Main Street. Murphys hosts many annual community events, including Murphys Irish Days, Grape Stomp, Gold Rush Street Fair and Holiday Open House. Murphys Creek Theatre presents classic and contemporary live productions, and the critically acclaimed "Theatre Under the Stars" at Stevenot Winery every summer. Concerts featuring well-known artists are held at Ironstone Vineyards and Calaveras County Fairgrounds.

Murphys was founded in the mid 1800's by prospecting brothers Dan and John Murphy, and the town grew as fortunes in gold were mined from the hills. Murphys continues to draw visitors and new residents, but the focus now is qulity of life and the warm sense of community. Central Murphys
Many historic buildings surround the main street of Murphys. Homes within walking distance of town are at a premium. The public park is nearby, and numerous events take place right in town. Many smaller subdivisions make up this thriving tourist community.

Forest Meadows
A gated community that offers upscale living and has around 300 home sites built around a municipal golf course. Homeowner amenities include: Swimming Pool, Tennis Courts, Rec Hall, BBQ & Picnic Area.

Murphys Ranch, Pennsylvania Gulch, Skunk Ranch
Rolling green hills surround many nice homes and several subdivisions. This varied area has much to offer, and is not far from town.

Murphys Pines
This area has larger parcels (generally 5 acres or more), and a few hundred home sites spread out in the hills. This was once some prime mining and prospecting land, and now features great views.

Douglas Flat
A quiet group of homes along Highway 4, mostly older and only a few home sites. Some mobile homes are available in this area, as well as many affordable starter houses.

Vallecito
A smaller community tucked in and around Highway 4, with several historic buidings in the central area. A wide variety of lots and sizes, and a range of different houses, gives this spot a feel of individuality.
